With two home games remaining, the Three Lions knew a draw would leave them in the driving seat in Group H, and made sure they were tough to break down in Kiev.

Defenders Gary Cahill and Phil Jagielka both played well at the Olympic Stadium, while Steven Gerrard and James Milner also put in industrious shifts.

Here’s what John Cross made of the England players.

Joe Hart

Had a nervy start and was lucky not to concede a penalty within a minute for a challenge on Zozulya. Got lucky when Fedetskiy headed straight at him.

Taken apart by Konoplyanka. Walker’s positioning, distribution and lack of composure not international class. Booked for shocking challenge.
