Roma will be looking to recapture the form that saw them lead the Serie A table for much of the season, before Milan leapfrogged them in the week, as they face Brescia tomorrow.
Fabio Capello’s side have been struggling of late, losing three times to nearest rivals Milan in the space of a month and desperately need to get back on track at Brescia.
Brescia go into the game off the back of a 3-1 drubbing at the hands of Chievo last weekend and will once again be without captain and talisman Roberto Baggio.
In the other Saturday fixture strugglers Reggina and Empoli clash in a match that could see Reggina pull clear of the relegation zone if they pick up the three points.
Should Empoli pull off an impressive away win however both sides will still be in major trouble as they lie five and two points respectively out of the drop zone.
Milan are aiming to keep their new place at the top of the table and continue their fantastic run as they travel to mid-table Bologna.
The men from the San Siro went to the summit of Italy’s top flight with their hard fought 2-1 win over Siena on Wednesday night and are now two points clear of Roma and five points clear of Juventus. Juve play host to Chievo who will be full of confidence after their victory over Brescia.
Juventus have been dropping points recently and can afford no further slip-ups if they are to hang onto the coat tails of the leaders and stay in the title race.
Sixth play seventh as Lazio and Sampdoria clash in Rome.
Lazio boss Roberto Mancini pledged his future to the club this week and will be hoping his men are inspired to a victory which would send them eight points clear of Sampdoria.
Parma and Inter go into the weekend’s fixtures level on points with Lazio and they both face tough tests against Perugia and Siena respectively. Perugia are currently fighting for their Serie A lives just one place off the bottom of the table and will certainly not lie down at cash-strapped Parma.
Siena have impressed everyone since their promotion from Serie B last season and currently sit in a very respectable 10th place. They will no doubt cause problems for Inter as they did for their neighbours Milan in the week, despite going down 2-1.
Bottom of the table Ancona could be cut adrift this weekend if they fail to take anything from Lecce at home. Lecce are just two places above the anchor club but are all of seven points clear of them.
Meanwhile Udinese and Modena clash and neither side have much to play for. Modena could do with take something from the game as they aim to avoid being sucked into a relegation dogfight. But with five teams below them gaining very few results it seems unlikely that that will happen.
